Our wonderful wife, mother, and sister was born June 12, 1960 to Lily Agnus Smith Sweeney and Charles Sweeney in Liverpool, England. She passed away Sunday April 19, 2015 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City surrounded by family and friends. Mandy was sealed to her eternal companion Frank A. Easter II on January 7, 1985 after an unusually short courtship. The two met while Frank was serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Manchester, England mission and knew in the moment they met that they were meant to be together. When she was finally able to follow him back to the states, he proposed to her the day she arrived and they were married six weeks later.
Mandy and Frank's Legacy can be found in their four amazing children although; she would often humorously argue whether they were as amazing as they thought. Mandy was proud of her children and would often tell anyone that would listen about their achievements. She would not tolerate them living below their potential and would often remind them that she "did not raise them like that". Mandy expected the best of people and if they didn't step up she was right there to take on the extra load.
Mandy was blessed to witness the marriage of her oldest daughter Rebecca to Shawn Marra a man whom she and her daughter adored. One of the greatest joys of her life came from the birth of her two granddaughters Kaylee and Averie. In her last months on this earth she had the privilege to spend every weekday with them and would often spend time at stores looking for the next treat or toy that she could bring home for them.
Mandy is a genuine, forward, stubborn, and loving woman. She would give you the shirt off her back, at the same time talking you through your error so that you would not need her shirt in the future. At times she would volunteer the services of her husband or children to help someone with a problem that she could not personally solve. Her willingness to help was so deeply ingrained in her personality that Mandy struggled to understand anyone who was not willing to help others in times of need. The thought of simply providing monetary or emotional support was not enough for her. Mandy would be there in the moment you were in need and then she would plan meals and assistance for as much time as you needed it.
Mandy loved to read, she would often disturb her husband Frank at night with her reading light as she adventured into other worlds until the early hours in the morning. She always believed that he was too heavy a sleeper to notice how late she would stay up, but he always knew. She instilled a love of learning and adventure in all of her children, often encouraging them to expand their imagination when others would suggest they should act more mature.
Mandy's memory will live on in all of the jokes and songs and lives she has touched. Many people wish to leave an imprint on the world so that their legacy would live on. Mandy achieved this through all of the lives she changed. Few of the missionaries who served in her area would have been able to serve here without her being a part of their missionary experience. She became the mother for each of these missionaries while they were away from their own. Mandy had a way of treating people like family from the first moment they walked through her door. Our family is enormous because she has "adopted" so many into it.
Mandy's one regret was that she lived such a long distance from her family in England. She would often speak of how she wished that her children had been raised with their cousins overseas, but she was grateful for each moment that she was able to spend with her parents and siblings. Mandy now goes to live with her parents in Heaven with the Father of us all. She will be missed, but the time until our reunion will be but a short dream.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Pioneer Stake Building, 1401 West 700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11:00am at the same location. Friends may join the family for a final viewing prior to the services from 10:00 - 10:45am. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the family.
