Carlene Porter Singleton, age 84, slipped peacefully from this mortal existence on April 18, 2023, surrounded by her family. We’re certain there was a grand celebration in heaven when she was reunited with her devoted husband, Wayne, her loving parents, her beloved grandmother, Nana Brockett, and others who went before her.
Carlene was born to Osgood Lambert (Bert) and Emily Brockett Porter on December 30, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Wayne Richard Singleton on July 2, 1957, and they were sealed for time and eternity on May 2, 1966. Together they had four children, but Carlene was a “mother” to many, many others. She is a strong Italian woman with the most beautiful heart and desire to love and be like her Savior, Jesus Christ. Carlene loves her family more than life and spent her 80+ years in the service of others. This is who she is and what she loved doing! Carlene’s legacy is her service, compassion, and ability to love without strings, judgement, or condition. She simply loved.
Carlene was an amazing homemaker; she loved sewing, gardening, cooking for her family, and she was willing to do anything that allowed her to spend time with loved ones. Wayne and Carlene enjoyed camping and golfing with friends, traveling, and serving in the Temple until Wayne’s passing in 2017.
In November 2021, Carlene found a friend and companion in Charles Paul. Together they took many road trips and visited numerous places which she enjoyed. They frequented the Hurricane Dairy Queen and enjoyed watching old TV shows together. Their love and friendship were special to mom, and she cherished his good care and kindness.
Thank you to the doctors who treated her for leukemia, and the amazing Hospice Team at Dixie Home Health.
Carlene is survived by her brother, David Joseph Porter (Ronda), children Vickie Hill (Jon), Jeff (Jean), Mark (Eva), Terri Gehrke (Scott), 25 grandchildren, and 30 (and counting) great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who have expressed gratitude and appreciation for her love and example.
Services will be held Monday April 24, at the Washington 10th Branch church building -- 1500 E. Ridge View Drive, Washington, Utah. A Viewing will be held from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. and the funeral will be 11:00 a.m. – noon.
Interment will be at the Washington City Cemetery directly following the service where she will be laid to rest beside her eternal companion, Wayne.
