Dale Martin Thompson

December 29, 1950 — December 30, 2024

Dale Martin Thompson, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 30, 2024, in South Jordan, Utah—the day after his birthday, after succumbing to pancreatic cancer. He was 74 years old.

Born on December 29, 1950, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Grant and Marjorie Thompson, Dale grew up with a strong sense of family and faith. He graduated from Marsh Valley High School and later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. His time there left an indelible mark on his life and deepened his commitment to service and community.

On April 14, 1973, Dale married the love of his life, Catherine Puckett, in the Ogden Utah Temple. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter while raising their four children: Kimberly, Adam, April, and Keli. Dale’s role as a father was one he cherished deeply. He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Riley, Dani, Logan, Cameron, Wyatt, James, Audrey—as well as Keaton and Tommy who preceded him in death.

Dale studied at Idaho State University before embarking on a successful career as an account broker. He worked first with Carnation and later Nestlé before venturing into entrepreneurial pursuits managing his own accounts. Later in life, he found joy working at Sportsman’s Warehouse where he managed the camping section. There he shared his passion for the outdoors with customers and colleagues alike.

An avid lover of nature’s beauty and adventure, Dale held Yellowstone National Park close to his heart—especially Roosevelt Lodge where he enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs soaking in the serenity of the surroundings. Capitol Reef National Park was another favorite destination where he delighted in riding ATVs and preparing Dutch oven meals for friends and family. These moments reflected his love for creating memories through shared experiences.

Dale had an unmistakable sarcastic sense of humor that brought smiles to those around him. Whether playing spirited games of UNO (where he always cheated) or watching classic westerns like "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza," he found joy in simple pleasures that connected him with loved ones.

A man of deep faith and dedication to service within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dale held numerous callings throughout his life—including serving as a member of the bishopric—but none brought him greater fulfillment than being a scoutmaster. His leadership inspired countless young men during their formative years. In recognition of his contributions to Scouting, Dale earned the prestigious Silver Beaver Award—a testament to his selflessness and commitment to guiding others.

Dale faced profound loss with grace when he was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda, and his beloved daughter Keli as well as two cherished grandsons Keaton and Tommy. Despite these heartbreaks, he remained steadfastly devoted to those around him—offering strength through example.

Dale’s legacy is one of love for family traditions; reverence for nature; unwavering faith; humor that brightened even difficult days; and an enduring impact on all who knew him. May those who mourn his passing find comfort in celebrating the remarkable life he lived—a life full of purpose—and may they carry forward the values he embodied so beautifully.
