David Larry Dunlap passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2024 at the age of 43. He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. David was born on January 11, 1981 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Despite a rough childhood he was a loving and tender soul. He was kind, caring and a good person through and through.
David had a great sense of humor. He was well read and was especially fond of his collectors editions of The Far Side by Gary Larson which fit well with his dry wit and sarcasm. He also enjoyed playing Pokemon Go with his brother Matthew and sister-in-law Jennifer, they even made a trip to view the eclipse and catch ‘em all.
David was an excellent woodworker and made beautiful jewelry boxes, chopsticks and many other projects. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics and other gadgets. David also was an ordained Pastafarian Minister in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
He enjoyed his work at NPS where he spent the last 10 plus years. He spoke highly of his boss and coworkers and was always animated when talking about what he was working on. He was thrilled when he finally got to have his very own office.
Most notably, however, was David’s love and care for his Nana, Jean Dunlap. He lived with her and took the very best care of her. He always worried about her when he wasn’t home and would call her throughout the day to check up on her. He loved her deeply and argued with her intensely. They had an incredibly special relationship and enjoyed doing things together like eating at the Mongolian Buffet and Jim’s Cafe.
David had a special bond with his adopted parents Joan and Dale Rond, who he called Ma and Pa. They loved him deeply and enjoyed going on outings with him. David often called Joan for advice and support and always received it. David loved all this family and spoke especially highly of his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was never one to miss an opportunity to support, whether donating to an event or watching a primary program over Zoom. His quiet support was always felt by those he cared about most.
David leaves behind his beloved Nana, Jean Dunlap, his adopted parents Joan and Dale Rond, his half brother Matthew (Jennifer) Dunlap, adopted brothers Richard (Candace) and Billy (Kirsten) Rond and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at 8117 South Leslie Drive West Jordan, Utah 84088-4303.
