With deep sadness, we announce the passing of David W. Rowley, known as "Our Dave," a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who was dedicated to service and family. Dave passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, at the age of 80, after a brief battle with cancer which he fought until the very last moment.
A man of integrity, strength, and compassion, David devoted his life to serving and protecting both his family and country. During the Vietnam War, he honorably served in the United States Air Force as a Bomb Navigation Systems Repairman and Defensive Fire Control Specialist. Following his military service, he attended the University of Utah pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, before deciding on a career in law enforcement.
He served over 29 years with the Salt Lake City Police Department, where he assumed various duties such as patrol officer, detective, and a member of the Gang Narcotics Intelligence Unit. He then spent an additional 22 years in private security. Throughout his career, he was known for his courage, attention to detail, and dedication to public service.
Beyond his professional life, Dave was a loving and devoted family man with an unfaltering commitment to his beloved wife, Kristine J. Rowley, whom he adored and was deeply committed to taking care of and making her laugh every day. Together they enjoyed a life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for exotic birds.
Dave was the third of seven brothers in a blended family that shaped his life and values. He is survived by his brothers Johnny, Alan, and Richard. He was predeceased by his brothers Bobby, Donald, and Mark. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kristine J. Rowley; his children: Troy McBirnie, Brian (Brandi) Rowley, Jason (Patty) Rowley, Jennifer (Denise) Rowley, Tanya (Jeff) Farley, and Trevor (Haley) Imani. He was preceded in death by his son Dennis (Matt) Gwyther. Dave had 10 grandchildren: Nicholas, Rachel, Katelynn, Aubree, Emily, Gavin, Ashton, Sidney, Evelyn, and Wilder; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
While Dave will be deeply missed; his legacy will live on and continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing him.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 6th, at Utah Veteran's Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 1700 West, Bluffdale, UT 84065. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation https://www.pcf.org/ in Dave’s name.
