Eric Alan Marlett, 55, of Taylorsville, UT, passed away on November 23, 2022 surrounded by family after a long battle with a tumor that had grown much after a diagnosis a year prior and struggling with diabetes.
Born in Fresno, California to Elisabeth Ann Marlett and Jerry Dale Trotter, however Eric never knew his father, he was mostly raised by his Grandmother Sarah Lou Allen Marlett and his Uncle Thomas Franklin Allen “Sandy” as a boy. Eric was a bright and energetic boy with his love of fishing, camping, and going to the ocean. Eric was fiercely passionate about computers, cowboys, cars, football, and sci-fi movies from the start and dedicated his life to both his pursuit of computer technology and his family.
Eric attended Kerman High School in Kerman and played varsity football for two years until a knee injury occurred and sometime after Eric decided to complete school early by getting his GED and became interested in computer programs. Eric went on to study at the Westland College and San Joaquin Valley College to obtain a four-year degree in computer programing from 1985 to 1987. Later Eric has also attended Heald College to get a degree in Computer Technology in 1997.
Eric was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by a work colleague, Greg Sullivan, in 1989 and was later baptized December 23rd of that year. Eric stated that it was a joyous occasion and was able to baptize his Grandmother Sarah later after receiving the priesthood. Eric enjoyed many ward callings in the church as Ward missionary for a time with his wife and mostly in the Family History department dealing with computers.
In 1993, Eric met Alice Stevens at a dance in February and later her daughter from a previous marriage, and they were later wed in the Oakland Temple September 25, 1993, and later sealed January 15, 1994, going on to having Alexis Anne Asay as their only child to raise as his own.
Eric was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father and husband. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. Eric had put family first, always, and was a dedicated father. His daughter went on to pursue career in Early Childhood Education and has been a teacher for young children. Eric and Alexis have had a very supportive and fun-loving relationship. They were always having some fun humorous banter going on; however, Eric would give her sound advice to her questions when asked growing up. Eric was later happy to see his daughter married in the temple to an excellent young man, Derek William Jensen, thus with the hope and potential of his family growing.
Eric was also a passionate about his food, football, country music, and was a Sci-fi enthusiast. Due to an injury at work at his last job as a Data analyst for Intermountain Health Care for eight years and his health began declining with his diabetes, Eric began his retirement early however he remained restless. He spent most of his early retirement while on disability at his computer catching up with Star Trek and Star Wars and spending time with his family and their cat. Eric was predeceased by Elisabeth Ann Marlett and leaves behind his wife Alice Stevens, daughter Alexis A. Jensen and son-in-law Derek W. Jensen. No services will be held at this time and the family will have an update to Eric’s memorial service soon.
