Fernando Jesus Flores

January 5, 1934 — December 9, 2022

Our loving husband, father, and grandfather Fernando Jesus Flores “Secko” died peacefully in his home in Midvale, Utah and returned to his Heavenly Father on December 9, 2022. He was born on January 5, 1934 in Dinkyville, Bingham Canyon, Utah to Juan and Innocencia (Delgado) Flores. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Christina “Chang” Saldivar on March 18, 1953. They went on to have 9 children: Fernando Henry Flores (Sharon), Tony Flores (Mickey), Robie Kramer (Gerald), Jerry Flores, John Flores (Sherma), Chuie Flores (Lori), Paul Flores, Ramona Lovell (Kevin), and Louie Flores (Monica).
Fernando is survived by his wife, 8 children, 64 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, brothers Dan, Richard, and Mike; sisters Juanita, Martha, Irene, Espie, Mary, Angie, and Zenida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jerry, granddaughter Stephanie, sister Estella, brother Jesus, and 15 angel grandbabies.
Fernando attended Bingham Highschool and earned his Diesel Mechanics degree after. He worked for 37 years at Kennecott Copper Mines as a Machinist Mechanic. After retiring from Kennecott, he worked as a custodian at Alta View Hospital for 5 years and volunteered as a crossing guard for the local school district.
Some of Fernando’s hobbies included dancing, making rings out of various materials, camping, and fishing. His most favorite past time was visiting with his family. He adored them all as much as they adored him.
He really loved to draw and he was great at it, too. He used his talent to enter the “Draw Me” contest as a cartoonist and won an entire drawing lesson by Walt Disney.
One of the many things Fernando was known for was giving a special nickname to each of his family members.
Fernando was a devout Catholic. He was a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In 1977, he had the honor of becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus. His grandchildren enjoyed attending Sunday mass with him and afterwards were treated to a donut and hot chocolate.
Fernando was the best kind of man and will be greatly missed. He loved to call grandma over to the door and they would look at the stars and moon together. His motto to his family was “Remember, I love you to the moon and back, and beyond the stars.” We’ll be looking for you in the stars.
May the lord hold you in his arms, may eternal rest be granted onto you, may you rest in peace until we meet again.
A viewing will be held at 9:00 AM, rosary at 10:00 AM, funeral mass at 11:00 AM December 19, 2022 at the St. Therese of the child Jesus Catholic Church, 7832 South Lennox Street, Midvale, UT, 84047. A luncheon will follow services at the same location.
