Jeanette Dougall Houtz was born at home in Springville, Utah on August 17,1938 to William Bernard and Marguerite Liddle, and passed away in St. George, Utah on January 11, 2025.
Jeanette’s mother was a former schoolteacher and that came in handy as Jeanette was home-bound for a year during her elementary school years, so her mother became her teacher. She graduated from Springville High School and later from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
She was sealed to Lyle Houtz in the Salt Lake Temple on November 21, 1958. They lived most of their married life in Orem, Utah. Summers in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s were spent seeing the U.S. while Lyle served active duty mainly at Fort Lee, Virginia. They eventually returned to southern Arizona for their retirement years, after beginning their marriage there while Lyle served in the U.S. Army. After Lyle passed, Jeanette moved into assisted living in St. George, Utah.
Jeanette enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing the piano and loved trying out a new recipe. She was a true and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many church callings including Junior Sunday School Coordinator, MIA, choir accompanist and ward accompanist.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Lindsay); one son, Scott; one brother, John; one sister-in-law, LaDonna (Rawlings). She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, as well as her parents. A celebration of life will be held this spring with internment in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, 4 “To everything there is a season,” the Bible explains. “A time to be born, and a time to die … a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance”.
