Joel Earnest Christiansen passed away peacefully while asleep at his home in South
Jordan, Utah, on April 24th, 2018, at the age of 61.
Joel is survived by his mother Salina, sisters Sylvia and Susan, brother Scott; his
children Bryan Christiansen (Nikki), Bevan Christiansen (Amber), Melissa Watson
(Gene), Colton Christiansen (Sasha), Tracey Snarr (Dan), Bryan Snarr (Jessica), Brent
Snarr, Anne-Lise Vasquez (Isaac), 10 grandchildren and his beloved dog Gus. He is
preceded in death by his father, Earnest Christiansen, and his two dogs, Scoots and
Lizzie.
Joel was born on May 10, 1956, in Fillmore, Utah. From a young age Joel became an
accomplished Eagle Scout with 51 merit badges; the most decorated in all of Utah and
Idaho at the time. Right after high school, Joel went to work at the Des-Bee-Dove coal
mine in Emery County for 13 years. In 1987, he moved to Salt Lake City where he
became a talented general contractor for the majority of his professional life. He spent
the last 8 years doing what he enjoyed most, which was working with his horses and
teaching young kids how to ride.
Joel's greatest passion in life was going elk and deer hunting every fall with his sons
and hunting buddies. Joel is remembered most for his larger than life personality and
his ability to tell endless stories that made everyone laugh. There wasn't any
challenge he faced that he couldn't overcome; to his children he seemed invincible.
He was a tough man but had the biggest heart and loved teaching his boys his craft;
working on houses and the art of hunting.
Per his wishes there will be no memorial services. He asked to be cremated and taken
to his favorite hunting spot to be with the nature he loved so dearly. In lieu of flowers
donations can be made to assist with funeral costs at
