1922~2018 NEUDIGATE, May B. "SUNNY", age 96, of West Valley City, Utah passed away Monday, September 10th, 2018. A viewing will be held Saturday, September 22nd from 11am-1pm at the Jordan North Stake Center on 4000 West and 3900 South with interment to follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Rd.
Sunny was born on March 9th during a flu epidemic in 1922 in Gunlock, UT and was blessed by her two grandfathers, Niels Nielsen and Josiah Leavitt when she was 1 day old as they feared she would not survive. For a time she lived in Idaho on a potato farm with her 7 siblings. She moved to Utah when she was 12 years old and graduated from West High School in 1939. In October of 1942 she met and married Arnold Hanson a soldier in the US Army. In 1944 she was notified by the military that Arnold was missing in action somewhere in Germany- in April of 1945 a card came saying he was alive but a Prisoner of War. He was released and arrived home on June 1945 the day his baby girl Pamela was born. When the baby was 10 days old the couple moved to Pomona, California. Their second child a boy, Steven was born August of 1952. Sunny was a true sun worshiper spending her days on the beach in California with her children and dear friend "Ennis". She also worked in the shipyards during WWII to aid the war effort.
The couple ended their marriage in 1955. On March 4th, 1960 Sunny married her beloved second husband Cecil Neudigate. Upon Cecil's death she moved back to Salt Lake City and became very active in the Church of Latter-day Saints. She worked in the MSA and SS of Salt Lake from 1970-1971. Many of us remember her tales of Singles Events she held as the head of the Committee over 4 stakes and church recreation. Sunny was also a member of the National Society Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. In her later years Sunny was not as active but remained involved as a visiting teacher partner with her dear friend Amy. She never remarried.
Retired from her bookkeeper position for IPCO Medical Supplies. She was super proud that while she was still working she went back to Business College to get her degree always joking she was the oldest in her class. During her retirement she kept herself young by gardening, knitting, making jewelry, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing Skip Bo card game with her granddaughter Sheri and being part of a Bunco Club. Her love of life was reading and she collected old books. We will all miss her laughter and stories of the old days. She loved taking trips with her sister Carol and hiking around the wilderness. A true free spirit, she was loved by many.
Sunny is survived by daughter Pamela Gregerson , son Steve Hanson, her sister Carol, brother Richard Leavitt and Her grandchildren Debbie, Sheri, Melia and Vale. 6 great grandchildren and 10 great- great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Neudigate and first husband Arnold Hanson. Parents: Francis W. and Mary E. Leavitt. Brothers; Melvin, Clark, Ronald, Kay and one sister Lucky Leavitt. Also, by her grandson Aylett Hanson and great grandsons Travis and Dustin and one great great grandson.
