Michael “Mike” John Durand, of Mesquite, Nevada passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 22, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on August 19, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri to Melvin John Durand and Mary Jane Clark. He graduated from Granger high school.
He married Barbara Graham, and they had two children (Michael J. Durand, Jr. and Scott D. Durand). After their divorce, he was drafted and spent 2 years in the Army, including time in California, Kansas, and Germany.
Mike worked for Western Electric (AT&T) for over 40 years and installed telephone equipment in the phone offices. His job had him working at locations across the U.S.
Mike met the love of his life, Sandy, on a blind date. On March 31, 1972, Michael J. Durand and Sandra Marie Backman were married and he embraced her two children (Sean T. Eoff and Pamela M. Eoff). Later, he got custody of his children, and they became a true blended family. After 52 years of marriage, Mike and Sandy loved spending every day together.
He loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and rock hunting. He also liked to create, build, and fix things. Everything from building a room on his home, fixing cars, to making jewelry from the precious stones that he found. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary, stepmother Elaine, sister Mary Eva, brother Marvin and son Scott.
Mike is survived by his wife Sandy, sister Carolyn, daughter Pam, and sons Mike Jr and Sean. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, niece and nephew.
Mike, you will be greatly missed by all of your family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in Mesquite, Nevada sometime in the future.
