Monroe Fredrick Dean

1938 ~ 2016

Monroe Fredrick Dean, our beloved, caring, kind and passionate Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend passed away peacefully due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease on Easter Sunday 3.27.2016 surrounded by His Loving Wife, Linda Dean and his 2 Children, Randy and Melani as well as his Granddaughter, Sophi.  He fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's for many years. In the very difficult end stages he was brave and as feisty as ever.

Always there through the good and bad times, especially the past few years, He always had love and care around him. There was always one of us with Him, to make sure He was peaceful, happy and loved.  His wife, Linda was his primary caregiver, and as promised, She wouldn't put him in a Nursing Home.  He was very grateful and defended Her always, even in the final stages.  He loves Her and protects Her, He would lay His head on Her shoulder and hold Her hand showing Her how much He loved Her and appreciated Her.  She and their 2 Children were dedicated assisting with his care until the end.

Monroe is survived by his wife, Linda, five Children, Melani Dean, Randy Dean, Fredrick Dean, Richard Dean, (Lisa), Hope Dean and Sister, Nancy Meadowcroft.  Nine Grandchildren, and numerous distant relatives.  Preceded in death by his Mother, Daisy Katherine Bratton Dean, Father, Earnest Slemp Dean, Brothers, Kyle Sr Dean (Carol) and Frank Dean (Carole).  He has especially missed his Parents and two Brothers.  Whom hopefully are sitting with him by a lake, fishing and free of suffering with the debilitating disease in this life.

Monroe was born 9.16.1938 to Loving Parents, Earnest Slemp Dean and Daisy Katherine Bratton Dean.  He was the second child of four.

He married Jean Christensen, which ended in divorce.  During this marriage he became the loving, proud Father of Fredrick, Richard (Lisa) and Hope Dean.  Four Grandchildren, David, Bronson, Morgan and Madelyn.

In 1969 He met and married the love of his life, soulmate, loving companion and best friend, Linda Nelson Dean.  They spent 47 years together and during their marriage, He became a proud, loving Father of Randy and Melani Dean whom were very devoted to their Father.  And five beautiful Grandchildren, Frank, Erica, RJ, Mackenzie and Sophi.  RJ, Mackenzie and Sophi were all very devoted to their Grandfather.  Monroe was very close to his Grandchildren, whom were there for him through the toughest years of HIs life as Alzheimer's continued to progress.

His Grandchildren, Mackenzie, RJ and Sophi spent a lot of time with their Grandfather 'Papa' going for rides to the mountains, fishing, camping, golfing, artwork, drums and many other activities when his condition was a bit better.  He loved Nascar and rarely ever missed a race.  Many times going to the racetrack was a family affair.  He loved to play golf, country music and watching 'The Price is Right', 'Family Feud', football and other sports. His Indian motorcycle and 1957 Chevy pickup truck were his pride and joy.   The last few years, Sophi would pretend to be His nurse and gave him a stuffed monkey, which He loved to interact with.  She also gave him big lego blocks, and played with Him.  He would look at the newspaper for hours with his wife, Linda.  Mackenzie and RJ would visit Him and enjoy ice cream with him.  He also enjoyed spending His time watching them in school programs and sports events.  He loved to go down to the pool with them and watch them swim.

Monroe also leaves behind a very special Family by marriage to Linda, his wife.  They have always welcomed Him into the Family and given so much love, kindness and compassion.  He had many special and fun times with them and they have been extremely helpful.

Monroe was a good man, wonderful and sometimes feisty.  He loves His Children and Grandchildren unconditionally and would give them all the love and moral support they needed.  However, did his very best to teach them good/hard work ethics and strong morals.  A remarkable hardworking man.  He was very proud when He was hired at Salt Lake County.  He loved His job and everyone He worked with.  He learned how to operate all heavy equipment.  His favorite was the backhoe, which remained his specialty.  He was very proud to be chosen as Employee of the Month.  He loved his work and would probably have worked as long as possible if He didn't also suffer from CMT, a degenerative nerve disease in the legs, feet, and hands, causing Him to retire early.  He will be dearly missed...  until we meet again.

A special thanks to Dr. Robert Powel for his excellent, warmhearted years of care for Monroe.  And to His staff for their sympathetic help with Monroe.   A sincere thanks to the numerous Salt Lake County Programs contributing to His special needs.  In addition thank you to Captain Jim DeGering & team from Unified Fire, Dr. Mataoa and staff (ER) at Jordan Valley Hospital. As well as the Dr. and team's effort after He was admitted and shortly passed.    And to Our two Children Randy and Melani for their unlimited devotion, love and patience, helping with His care and special needs until the very end.

On Saturday April 16th, 2016 at 10:30am - 11:15am there will be a Celebration of Life followed by a light lunch at 11:30am - 12:30pm at Cornerstone Church (1175 w. 600 n.)  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer's research and/or MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) in Monroe Dean's name.
