Nifai (Nephi) Tauteoli

d. June 1, 2018

1959 ~ 2018

Nifai (Nephi) Tauteoli passed away peacefully at home on Monday May 28th, 2018, surrounded by many of his family members. He was born on June 7, 1959 in Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, Tonga to Paluvalevale Tevita (Kefu) Po'ulikae'eva Tauteoli and Lusi Takimu'ahekosipeli Muti Tauteoli.

Nifai was born as the younger twin with Muliki'Eua Paluvalevale Lihai Tauteoli, with whom he had an unbreakable bond. Nifai joined his Tauteoli family in their migration to the United States in 1971, starting a new life in Laie, Hawaii, and then Salt Lake City, Utah.

Nifai graduated from East High School in 1977, and worked for A1 Pioneer as a Manager for more than thirty years in Salt Lake City, Utah, displaying an amazing example of hard work and dedication. Throughout the years, he helped employ hundreds, and mentored many nephews throughout life.

Nifai enjoyed working out, attending UTES football games, and spending time with family, friends, and especially his grandkids. His strong bond with his siblings was a well-known family trait that was appreciated and honored. Nifai's love for racquetball extended to the love he had for his teammates, embracing them as family. He was incredibly genuine and selfless, and a man who would do anything for anyone in need. His big smile and contagious laugh would always light up any room. Nifai will be remembered for his stylish clothes, flawless hair, and wearing his favorite cologne that everyone could smell. His love for music from the 60's and 70's was well known by all, and he would always sing along, whether or not he knew all the words.

In 2016, Nifai was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. During his fight with cancer, he continued to work every day until 3 weeks before his passing, played racquetball through chemo treatments, and continued to be there for others with a positive attitude. His strong will and determination to beat this disease kept him here with us much longer than expected. Nifai's son Josh, and daughter-in-law, Nancy, took amazing care of him through this battle, and never left his side. Our family is deeply grateful to them and all those who poured into Nifai's home, surrounding him with love, and visiting with him during his final weeks of life.

Nifai is survived by siblings, Uinise Uipi (Filia); Muliki'Eua Paluvalevale Lihai Tauteoli (Peti); Tevita Hawks Tauteoli (Chris); Mosese Muti Tauteoli (Nala); children, Anthony Ricci (Ann Drea); Joseph Tauteoli; Kylie Praag Mauai (Chad); Ana Young; Viliami Young; Joshua Tauteoli (Nancy); Evelyn Young; niece, Bev Uipi; grandchildren, Jacob Thomas Ricci, Brooklyn Ricci, Xane Tauteoli Uipi, Alliyah Jei Mauai, Kingston Malakai Mauai, Zekiah Chad Mauai, Malachi Young, Shiloah Young, Kai Guertin, Elijah Wiesen, Nifai Tauteoli, Joshua Tauteoli Jr., Leolani Tauteoli, Honey Tauteoli; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and beloved friends.
