Peggy Barnett, 75, passed away on February 21, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to complications during open-heart surgery. She was born on May 5, 1949, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Kenneth and Bernice Barnett. She was the youngest of three daughters.
Her father worked for the State Department, helping rebuild Germany after World War II. In 1954, the family moved to Bisbee, Arizona, where Peggy spent the rest of her childhood.
At age 19, while living in New Jersey, Peggy joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith remained an important part of her life, and she had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ.
Peggy worked in public elementary schools and had a deep love for working with children. Her son, John, was born in Mesa, Arizona, in 1976. In 1985, she moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to be closer to family. She was a devoted mother—always loving and supportive of her son. In 2021, she relocated to Utah to be near John, and they shared many happy moments together.
She had a passion for family history and a deep love for animals. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and was an avid reader with a love for history. Peggy was known for her kindness and compassion toward both family and friends. She always had a cheerful countenance and an upbeat personality.
She will be missed immensely.
Peggy is survived by her son, John LeSueur; her sister, Anne Cloud; her brother-in-law, John Smith; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Cathy Smith; and her brother-in-law, Pete Cloud.
