Philip Fischl

d. January 15, 2019

1947 ~ 2019

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Philip Fischl (71) was called back to Our Heavenly Father on January 11, 2019. He was born May 24, 1947 in Vanport, Oregon to Benjamin and Bessie (Kravetsky) Fischl. He grew up in Massapequa, New York with his parents and 2 siblings.

He was drafted into the Army in June 1967 and was sent to Fort Gordon, Georgia for training. Phil served his time in Anchorage, Alaska where he found it an honor and privilege to cook for his Brothers in Arms. It was there that he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he married his first wife Carolyn. They had 4 wonderful children together and later divorced after 25 years of marriage. He married his eternal companion Gayle Brunson on April 24, 2004 in the Jordan River Temple.

Phil had many jobs throughout his lifetime. He worked as a baker, at Pizza Hut, and for First Security Bank. He worked at Monson Insurance as an Agent for 31 years. He loved working with the public and being able to help people. When he retired in December of 2017, he said he would miss the customers most of all.

He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with them. Phil visited each family whenever he could. Holidays and birthdays were greatly enjoyed. Phil loved talking on the phone with loved ones and it was unusual to have a conversation with him shorter than an hour. Phil loved to cook, watch cooking shows, read cookbooks and experimented with different recipes. Most were very good (some not so good). After Phil retired. he started fishing with his brother/friend Dennis Church. Phil joined Facebook and found several friends he grew up with and others he knew from Alaska.

Phil and Gayle loved to travel to places for the first time. They visited his sister Charlene in California every year. He had a great relationship with his in-laws and enjoyed talking with his mother-in-law (Nadeen) on the phone. Phil's step-son Justin would check in on them daily. Phil had Gayle with him every day the last 70 days of his time on earth, they spent many hours together. She assisted the nurses in caring for him. They always said "I love you" to each other.

Phil had hip surgery on October 31, 2018 and was in either a Hospital or Nursing Facility until his passing due to complications. Throughout this time, he was surrounded by his family and had continued love and support.

Phil is survived by his wife Gayle, children David (Cristen), Lisa (Brad), Christine (Jeff), Aaron (Catrina), step-son Justin (Niki), 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Phil was preceded in death by his parents Bessie and Benjamin, his siblings Joseph and Charlene and his ex-wife Carolyn.
