Randall Kent Young

Randall Kent Young, age 74, passed away of heart complications on March 10, 2022, holding hands with his sweetheart, Barbara. He was born on July 26, 1947, in Murray, Utah, to George William and Helen May Cannegieter Young. He attended Granite High (class of 1965) where he played lead guitar in the band Surf Side 5. During high school he met Barbara Gold, the love of his life, and married her August 19, 1966. He joined the Army Reserves in 1966 and came home when his firstborn was 2 weeks old. He held various jobs and then settled on a career of being an electrician, starting his own company (RK Young Electric) in 1978, which he ran until he had an aortic dissection in November 2007. Randy and Barbara raised their family in Sugarhouse, on Wellington St. His children have fond memories of winter ski trips, summer vacations (to Fish Lake & Jacob Lake), and duck hunting adventures. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as Bishop of the Parley's 2nd Ward. He later fulfilled a service mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and loved genealogy work. He played in the band Reunion 65 for many years, with dear high school friends. Six years ago, he and Barbara retired to Ivins, Utah, where every day was a vacation and where he decided to be buried. Randy loved to play guitar and mandolin with the Old Time Fiddlers and ukulele with his buddies Paul and Arlen. Additionally, he loved to bake and deliver bread to friends, do genealogy, and putter in his garage, completing several tables and other woodworking projects.



Randy is survived by his wife Barbara Gold, his children Matt (Karrie) Young, Kevin (April) Young, Janell (Michael) Sutherland, and Tyler (Andrea) Young, eight beloved grandchildren (Megan, Ian, Erin, & Dallin Young, Scott & Dean Sutherland, and George & Arthur Young; grand pets Coco, Arlo, & Marco), his brother David (Jackie) Young, sister Nancy (John) Hyde, and multitudes of extended family, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his brother, Victor, and his parents. A viewing will be held on March 19, at 10:00 AM, at the Ivins 10th Ward (15 N. Main St., Ivins, UT), followed by his funeral at 11:00 and burial in Ivins Cemetery.



Randy was a simple man who amassed great wealth: the riches of a loving extended family, abundant dear friends, diverse life experiences, and broad knowledge. He was genuine, hard-working, patient, gentle, and enthusiastic. He loved his neighbors, made friends easily, and loved to share experiences, whether it was playing music, baking bread, serving in church, or playing games. He was extremely skilled with his hands, working as a Master Electrician but not hesitating to take on projects that involved plumbing, masonry, carpentry or other trades. He always kept a tidy work area, whether in the shop, the kitchen, the music room or the office. He built things to last, including his family. Each day he told Barbara, his wife of 55 years, how much he loved her, and she told him how much he was loved. He was actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. We have no regrets other than wishing for more time.
