Our beloved mother and grandmother, Rayona Theo Jewkes Powell, age 93, quietly passed from this life on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at The Retreat at Sunriver Assisted Living where she had been a resident for several years.
Rayona was born on July 4th, 1931, in Orangeville, Utah to Rheuben Samuel and Ida Theo Black Jewkes. She was known as “The Fire Cracker Baby”. She had an older sister, Mona Lee, and a younger brother, Reuben Ladell. Rayona married Rex Taylor Powell on February 5th, 1947, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Rayona was very caring and known to always be there for you. She loved her family and was very devoted to them. She was from a family of musicians, loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Rayona was talented in so many areas, from creating different works of art to sewing and making quilts. She was proud of her ancestry and her pioneer heritage.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions and callings of service throughout her life. Rayona worked at the Price LDS Garment Center for many years.
Rayona is survived by her children, Daniel Lee Powell (Marilee), Tyrone Taylor Powell (Joyce), Gerald Brad Powell, Marion Danette Hunt (Ray), Mark Ammon Powell (Julie), and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Taylor Powell, her son, Joseph Rex Powell, her parents, sister, and brother.
A viewing with a small program, will be held at Affordable Funerals and Cremations mortuary on Thursday evening, October 24th, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The mortuary located at 157 East Riverside Drive, Ste. 3A, St. George, Utah 84790.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25th, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Salem City cemetery, 965 South 140 East, Salem, Utah 84653.
Rayona always closed her conversations with, “Bye Bye for Now”, how true that is today, “Bye Bye for Now”. We are all looking forward to seeing and being with you again. May the Lord watch over and bless you always and forever.
