1947 ~ 2015
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. Robert Lee Garner returned back to our Heavenly Father Thursday, December 10, 2015; at the age of 67.
He was born December 20, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The oldest of 9 children. His parents were Burtis Joseph Garner and Betty LaRue Freeman, and his stepfather is Homer J. Williams.
As a young child he loved to play sports. He played baseball, basketball, football, and ran track. In college Robert played the trumpet in a Rock Band called "The Spun Glass."
He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Northern States mission. Through his testimony and love for the Gospel he has blessed and touched many lives.
He married his sweetheart Venice Marlene Rodgers on August 29, 1969 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple for all eternity.
Born from this union they were blessed with six children.
Robert, was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; where he served in many capacities and callings throughout his life. He served with his wife as service missionaries at the South Davis Community Hospital. And was a Branch President in Beatrice, Nebraska. The most noble calling he ever had was that of a husband, father, and grandfather.
Robert served his country through the United States Air Force, and in the Air National Guard. He also contributed to his community by serving as a Salt Lake Police Officer; and served as a board member for the Crossroads Urban Center; along with various business management positions.
Robert will be remembered most for his love for camping and fishing with his family. He loved eating Kipper snacks, pretzels, licorice, and peanuts. You always knew he was happy when you heard him humming the tune "Strangers in the Night." Robert loved his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and friends with all his heart.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, and children; Gary (Bonnie) Garner, Brian (Jennifer) Garner, James (Bethany) Garner, Angela (Adam) Ford, Elizabeth (Shawn) Setelin, and Matthew (Adria) Garner. (Stepfather) Homer J. Williams, and four brothers and four sisters. Thirty-four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
A viewing will be held Tuesday evening, December 15, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bountiful Utah 34th Ward located at 540 North 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the same location with a viewing prior to services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Bountiful City Cemetery located at 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah.
