Our beautiful mom, grandma, aunt and wife, Shirley Hall Dias Aslett, left her family here on earth and passed on to be with her family in heaven. She was born on February 19, 1934, to Elwin and Lucy Hall in McCammon, Idaho. She was the youngest and adored by her parents and siblings Clayton, Opal, and Lovell. They all preceded her in death, so it is sure they are rejoicing to have everyone together.
Shirley grew up on the stage dancing and singing. She had black ringlets and was often called little Shirley Temple. She was an amazing dancer and showman. She performed all over and people made over her talent. If she did something it was going to be the best of everything she did.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You could not be in her presence without knowing her love for the Savior. She never hid it even when it wasn't popular. She dared to believe in her faith, and she dared to make it known. While dancing professionally in California she looked for a church to attend but in the little town of Petaluma there was no service. She went and listened to a preacher in the park because Sunday was always a day of worship and even on Vacation she didn't miss. That decision changed everything.
While in the park, in her words to her mom, the most beautiful man was staring at her. He had seen her and thought she was gorgeous and he said, "I am going to marry her!" four days later he followed her back to Utah, she taught him about the gospel and not only did he fall in love with her but also the gospel of Jesus Christ. They were married shortly after. One year later On December 13, 1954, George and Shirley Dias were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They Started a legacy of love that will live on for generations. They worked hard to provide for their large family and even took in over 26 foster children and treated them just like their own.
Shirley taught dancing and was so beloved by all her students and their parents. She taught them how to dance and showed so much love to them. They were her kids also. She was so talented. She danced, sang, played the piano by ear, oil painted, cooked, spoke eloquently, and was an amazing seamstress. Many a night she would stay up all night to make matching dresses for her, six daughters and make sure Rob and George had matching pants and ties. She did this every Easter and Christmas. She and George had 10 children and tragically they lost four babies. Shirley never questioned her faith or was angry at God. She grew closer to the lord and was thankful for her belief she would see them again. Her strength is inspirational.
She and George had a very close relationship and always greeted each other first with a kiss and she was the last person he kissed when he left. On a cold March morning in 1983 after 30 years of marriage he kissed her for the last time on this earth. Now I am sure he is there so happy that she is reunited with her babies Randy, Rodney, Mivette, and Rodee. Even after the loss of her husband, Shirley kept her faith strong. She always said live life right and endure to the end. She was left to finish raising the two youngest on her own.
In 1990 She met DeWayne Aslett who she would spend the next 33 years with. They were able to travel and do so many fun things together. They loved to dance and were beautiful on the dance floor. DeWayne often said, " Shirley is a woman that could bring any man to his knees." He was there with her as she passed to the other side. She was preceded in death also by her beautiful granddaughter, Briar Osborne and son-in-law Shane Osborne. Shirley is survived by Mellody Fausett (Terry), Michele Osborne, Diane Anderson (Richard), Rob Dias (Sherri), Marcie Peterson (Rodger), Monette Dias, Maurie Simons (Jason) many grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. The family would like to thank The Haven where she spent the last 3 years, to hospice and especially Crystal, she showed so much love and compassion to our mom the last couple months. Even Though we feel a little jealous of the angels that are able to be with our mom tonight. We feel so blessed that we had the angel on earth for as long as we did. Well done thy good and faithful servant, you definitely endured to the end. Mizpah.
