Simon Jr. Velasquez

April 4, 1989 — February 9, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Simon Jr. Velasquez, 34. Simon departed in his sleep in the early morning of February 9, 2024, in West Valley City, Utah. He was surrounded by family and friends when he was found unresponsive, lying in bed. A beloved boyfriend, son, brother, cousin, uncle, nephew, and friend who left us too soon.
Simon was a beacon of light. Born into a world that he embraced with open arms, his infectious laughter and boundless curiosity were his trademarks. He possessed a spirit that was both gentle and wild, a heart that loved without limits, and a soul that yearned for the freedom to explore the vastness of life’s possibilities.
At a young age, he was fascinated by the adrenaline of life through soccer, climbing, and striving for excellence in everything he did. He had a competitive spirit and was relentless in mastering his pursuits. Simon spent the majority of his childhood playing sports, beating his sister Martha at many firsts, and attending church with his mother. He was a student at Lake Ridge Elementary, Brockbank Junior High, and Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah.
As an adult, Simon decided to pivot his focus from becoming a professional soccer player (a lifelong dream) to his entrepreneurial journey by starting his own construction business, SV Concrete Pro. He was a jack of all trades and was always excited to learn new things with tough determination. Aside from his goals, he was all about family and a family man himself. Simon expressed his love through his humor, gift-giving, going on adventures, and even sharing the latest song or album from his favorite artist NF.
Son of Martha Garcia De Velazquez and Simon Velazquez, Simon was born in Los Angeles, California, and was named after his father as the baby of the family. Simon is survived by his girlfriend Andrea Morales and seven siblings: Thomas Velasquez, Leticia Velasquez, Mario Velazquez, Beatriz Ruvalcaba (Velasquez), Servando Velazquez, Yesenia Torres (Velazquez), and Martha Koloti (Velazquez). As a young uncle, Simon played the role of a big brother for his ten nieces and four nephews with whom he shared a special bond.
As Simon’s 35th birthday approaches this April 4th, let us honor his memory with acts of service, sharing stories or pictures with his immediate family through social media, or booking a haircut at his favorite barbershop Dapper Delinquents.
A viewing and burial service was previously held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Simon was laid to rest on February 16, 2024, at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery. May you find comfort and peace in reading the following thoughts he shared on October 19, 2023, via Facebook:
“Life is good and I thank the man upstairs
He knows what I have been threw and knows the conversations we’ve had
People ask me how did you do it. I just tell them my family and the mercy of God
Sometimes we have to be broken to be rebuilt again
Sometimes you are humbled in the worst way
But just know that he has a plan for all of us
I never believed it
I was always in denial until he brought me to my knees and showed me that he could work wonders in my life. I just had to open my eyes
And let me tell you something, he sure did
Now, he has been blessing me with so much that sometimes I find it hard to believe it
So don’t give up
Life is beautiful
You just have to let him in.”
