Thomas Wayne Childs (Tom, Tommy, T.C.) our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend peacefully passed away with his family by his side on October 27, 2022, at the age of 79. Tom was born October 6, 1943, to Ned and Elma Childs, he was the 3rd out of 6 children. He married the love of his life Linda Mary McLeod Childs on June 28, 1974.
Tom graduated from Tooele High School in 1962 then started working at the Tooele Army Depot and respectfully retired as a chemical inspector. Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping any chance he got. He loved having family and friend gatherings anytime he could have his loved ones together. He was extremely athletic in playing baseball and golf but, his greatest passion was bowling that he started in 1960 as a pin boy at the Tooele Bowling Center.
For 62 years of Toms bowling career, he joined the American Bowling Congress (ABC) in 1961, bowled in as much as 8 leagues in a year, he was Salt Lake City’s Bowling Association Champion in 1965, in 1979 he was Elected to the Utah State Bowling (USBC) Association Board of Directors and later became Manager of the USBC Association until he ended his term in 2018, he bowled many 300 games including being the first ever to bowl a 300 game in Tooele County, worked with the junior bowling programs at city and state levels for 31 years helping teach many young bowlers the fundamentals of the game, traveled to different cities and states to bowl in many tournaments, he was inducted into the Utah State Men’s Bowling Hall of fame in 2005 and inducted into the Salt Lake City Hall of Fame in 2012.
Tom was kind and generous, with a goofy personality who loved to joke with everyone. he was an inspiration, a blessing and made a big impact in many communities and to so many peoples lives, especially his family. He was so loved and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife Linda Childs, daughters Michelle (from a previous marriage), Necol (Josh), Denise, Julie (Anthony), Tammy (Taylor), 19 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Richard. Greeting him in heaven are his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, a grandson, and one of his besties, “Butchy".
There will be a Memorial/Celebration of Life on November 19, 2022, 12:00PM-4:00 PM @ Bonwood Bowl, 2500 So. Main St. South Salt Lake, Utah 84115.
