Valene Gibbs

November 1, 1965 — February 15, 2024

On February 15, 2024 Valene opened her eyes to the freedom of running with her sister Shauna through her favorite fields of sunflowers and took a long deep breath for the first time in years. During her 10-year cancer battle she sought purpose, the beauty in nature and the simple things. She spread laughter, joy, silliness, pranks and adventures building memories for her friends, family and self. While seeking life lessons, she showed others how to enjoy the simple things in the end realizing her purpose was to be the best Val (self) she could be.
Val had a beautiful spirit and an aptitude for imprinting and impacting those who were fortunate enough to cross their journey with hers. Her time may have been shorter than we were ready to accept letting her go, but her impact was profound. Her zest for life and laughter was a beacon that drew us all in.
A beautiful red breasted finch arrived outside her sliding glass door on the day she passed leading her to her new home. As this new journey begins, let us keep her in our hearts as we look back at our time with her in fondness. Her strength and sprint will live on through those who carry her in their memories. Run free Val. You touched and inspired so many people in your life and were very loved.
Survived by her son Sean (Jen) Ogden, siblings Ennis Gibbs, Sherrill Wood, Brooks (Tanya) Gibbs, nieces and nephews She is proceeded in death by her parents Ada and Don Gibbs and sister Shauna. A celebration of life will be held in fall when the sunflowers start to bloom. Updates will be posted on Val’s Facebook page.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Susan G. Komen in her name.
