Vene Brent Collett, a cherished resident of St. George, Utah, passed away on December 16, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on December 30, 1946, in Vernal, Utah, to Mary Rasmussen and Vene Billings Collett.
Brent devoted his life to his family, faith, education, and community with unwavering commitment and integrity. From his early years, he demonstrated a profound dedication to learning, and a curiosity of the world around him. He enjoyed reading very much and collected books from diverse genres.
Brent’s deep religious conviction guided every facet of his existence. Rooted in his strong faith, Brent was a steadfast member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith was not just a belief but a practice that manifested through tireless service and contribution to the community. He lived his faith through service, dedicating his time and talents to the church and those in need. Brent served a mission in Alberta, Canada. He began three months in Alberta the finished the remainder of his mission with the Native Blackfoot people.
Perhaps most notably, Brent’s specialization in genealogy allowed him to connect the past with the present, making significant contributions to the FamilySearch initiative. A passionate genealogist, Brent dedicated countless hours to the FamilySearch program, helping individuals trace their heritage and connect with their ancestral roots. His work in genealogy was not just a hobby but a profound expression of his love for family, faith and history. His expertise and dedication in this field were a testament to his commitment to preserving family history and fostering connections that transcend generations.
Brent earned a degree in Education from Weber State University. He served several years as a schoolteacher in Gallup, New Mexico. Later, he returned to Weber State to study horticulture. He loved the study of plants, and the industry as well. He worked for Thanksgiving Point, in Lehi, Utah. He entered this profession with great dedication and loved working with the flowers and plants. His contributions were greatly appreciated, and he found joy as the patrons got to enjoy his handiwork.
Brent’s profound ability to mentor individuals facing personal trials and in turn made many friends who returned the favor of a listening ear. He embodied empathy and understanding that left a lasting impact on countless lives.
In the community, Brent was recognized not only for his achievements but also for his exceptional honesty and integrity. These traits earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. His willingness to care deeply for his family and friends was evident in his actions; Brent would travel great distances to ensure that those he loved felt supported and valued.

Brent leaves behind a legacy of compassion, honesty, and dedication that will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him. As we gather to remember Brent, let us celebrate his life, a man whose unwavering love for others and his guiding faith helped shape the community he cherished. He will forever remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have been touched by his kindness. His life's mission continues through the countless lives he touched and inspired. We remember him as a man of steadfast faith and kindness, whose life was a shining example of dedication to others and a life well-lived.
As in life, he will always be cherished as a son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. His legacy of goodness, love, and service is carried forward in the many lives that were made better by his touch.
Funeral services will be held on February 15,2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 550 East 700 South, St. George, UT 84770 at 3pm.
