Vickie Thompsen Tanner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on December 20, 2024. She was born on September 16, 1950, to Ila and John Thompsen in Ogden, Utah, and graduated from Roy High School.
On April 16, 1970, Vickie married her eternal companion, Doug Tanner, in the Salt Lake Temple, with Elder N. Eldon Tanner officiating. Their marriage of 54 years was a cornerstone of her life, raising five children and sharing their adventures as they moved across the country. Throughout her life, Vickie cultivated deep and lasting friendships that she cherished dearly.
Vickie and Doug lived in Washington, California, Virgina, New Jersey and Colorado before returning to Utah in 2005, where they settled near family. She always said that the greatest blessing was being able to live close to those she loved most, and her family was her greatest joy.
Vickie had a passion for travel, and over the years, she visited all 50 states and many foreign countries. She and Doug went on 22 cruises, often bringing back stories, memories, and always making a new dear friend or two with each trip. She loved exploring new places, but her heart was always drawn back home to her family.
Above all, Vickie’s life was defined by her Christlike love and service. She had an immense heart, filled with compassion and kindness. She lived a life of selflessness, always looking for ways to uplift and support others. Whether through acts of service or simply being a listening ear, Vickie’s love for others was evident in everything she did.
Her love for her family was unwavering and fierce. As a wife, mother, and grandmother, she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep sense of belonging. Vickie was a woman of great faith, whose life was a reflection of her belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Her example of service, patience, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Vickie is survived by her loving husband, Doug Tanner; their children: Todd Tanner, Tami (Mike) Peterson, Chad (Nika) Tanner, Corey (Mari) Tanner, and Taryn (Chris) Lines; and her treasured 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister Marty and brother Randy and many other relatives and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness.
Vickie is preceded in death by her parents and brothers David and Kim Thompsen.
