Wayne Hamby passed away in the early afternoon of 10 January 2023 due to complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease, with which he struggled for more than 10 years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his dear parents Fred and Rayda, by his brother Jim, and by his two sons Wayne Jr., and Jonathon. He is survived by his sister Susan, and his four sons Matthew, David, Luis, and Joshua. He has ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Wayne was an incredible man and knew people all over the Earth. He grew up in Clearfield and Heber Utah, and enjoyed a special, loving relationship with his maternal grandparents, who had a great hand in helping raise him. Throughout his life, Wayne resided in Utah, New Jersey, Florida, Bolivia, and Brazil, but travelled to more than half the countries in the world. He also served in the Army for three years.
After his long battle with Parkinson's, Wayne decided it was time to go home, and passed away peacefully asleep in his bed. Up until his last moments he was vibrant and vital, anxious to be engaged and relevant in the world around him, always looking for that next big business deal, and always rushing to finish his next project. When he was young, he set sprinting records and ran marathons, but even at the end of his life when his body wouldn’t cooperate, he kept running as fast as he could from his chair. He published two books in his life, one that he wrote while he had Parkinson’s, and was working on many other projects at the time of his passing. He was always busy doing something, and surely still is now with his renewed vigor on the other side of the veil.
He was a deeply spiritual man who dearly loved his Heavenly Father. He loved the Savior and spent a great deal of effort in his life trying to bring word of Him to the rest of the world.
So many people have had the opportunity to know and be friends with this great man. He was an author, an adventurer, an entrepreneur, an inventor, a businessman, a world traveler, and a real-life Indiana Jones. More than anything, though, he was principally and fundamentally a father and a friend.
If you had the opportunity to know him, we are happy for you. He enriched many lives in his almost 80 years.
